Nontrivial solution of a nonlinear second-order three-point boundary value problem

In this paper, for a second-order three-point boundary value problem u" f(t,u)=0, 0＜t＜l,au(0) - bu'(0) = 0, u(1) - αu(η) = 0,where η∈ (0, 1), a, b, α∈ R with a2 b2 ＞ 0, the existence of its nontrivial solution is studied.The conditions on f which guarantee the existence of nontrivial solution are formulated. As an application, some examples to demonstrate the results are given.

Using two successive subgradients in the ellipsoid method for nonlinear programming

A variant of the ellipsoid method for nonlinear programming is introduced to enhance the speed of convergence. This variant is based on a new simple scheme to reduce the ellipsoid volume by using two center cuts generated in two consecutive iterations of the ellipsoid method. Computational tests show a significant improvement in computational efficiency. The tests show that the improvement is more significant for larger-size problems.     

Simple-Tree Weighted Logrank Tests for Right-Censored Data

In this paper we are concerned with the problem of testing against the simple-tree alternative that there is at least one treatment more effective than the control when data are subject to random right-censorship. A class of tests based on linear combinations of two-sample weighted logrank statistics each comparing an individual treatment with the control is proposed. Asymptotic relative efficiencies of the simple-tree versions of Gehan-Wilcoxon, logrank and Peto-Prentice-Wilcoxon under Lehmann and scale alternatives are evaluated for various combinations of survival distributions and censoring probabilities. The results of a Monte Carlo level and power study are presented. An illustrated numerical example is also reported.     

Tracking Demands in Optimal Control of Managerial Systems with Continuously-Divisible, Doubly Constrained Resources

The paper addresses problems of allocating continuously divisible resources among multiple production activities. The resources are allowed to be doubly constrained, so that both usage at every point of time and cumulative consumption over a planning horizon are limited as it is often the case in project and production scheduling. The objective is to track changing in time demands for the activities as closely as possible. We propose a general continuous-time model that states the problem in a form of the optimal control problem with non-linear speed-resource usage functions. With the aid of the maximum principle, properties of the solutions are derived to characterize optimal resource usage policies. On the basis of this analytical investigation, numerical scheduling methods are suggested and computationally studied. 本文对非定常的Ｓｔｏｋｅｓ方程的初边值问题证明了Ｐｈｒａｇｍｅｎ－Ｌｉｎｄｅｌｏｆ二择性原理，即证明Ｓｔｏｋｅｓ流函数的能量，随着与带状区域有限端距离的增加必定或者按指数率增长或者按指数率衰减．对能量衰减情况建立了Ｓｔｏｋｅｓ流速度的最大模的点点估计．并提出求全能量上界的方法．     

On the reciprocal vector optimization problems

A necessary and sufficient condition is established for an optimal solution of a primal vector optimization problem to be an optimal solution of its reciprocal. Such a condition is developed and analyzed in the Pareto case, the strong case, and the lexicographic case. We detail these results for ordinary (i.e., scalar) optimization problems.
